It may look like a complicated block, but its actually not even beginners can easily follow the steps.

Cut directly on the line, trim into 4 1/2 squares, and press them open.

Fill the rest with 4 1/2 white blocks.

Sew them together in rows first.

Once done, sew the rows together.

You need 12 of this block.

For the second block

Start doing the corner blocks four patches.

Take a 10 square and cut it into four pieces of 5 squares.

Get two of those and place a 5 background square on top of each one.

Sew them on the sides (do not sew the top and bottom).

Once done, cut them in half, and press them open.

Place them on top of each other, right sides together, with the colors opposite.

Sew the sides again and cut them in half to make four patches.

Make the star legs.

Next, you need four pieces of 4 1/2 squares of the background color.

Sew it on, press it open, and repeat with the other side to make the leg.

Trim off the excess and repeat to make four pieces.

The corner squares are the four patches with the dark colors touching the white star legs.

The center square should be the same color as the four patches.

Sew them together into a block and press open.

You need 13 of this block.
