Its super easy to make and only requires two basic blocks the hourglass and four patch blocks.

Take 2 layer cake squares and cut them into half in both directions to make 5 blocks.

Get four 5 blocks 2 light and 2 dark.
Arrange them in a four patch alternating the light and dark.
Sew them in rows first with a 1/4 seam allowance.
Once done, set the seam and press them open towards the dark side.
Sew the rows together with 1/4 seam allowance.
Step 2:
Make the hourglass block.
Take 2 layer cake squares.
Fold one in half diagonally and press to make a crease.
Place it on top of the other square, right sides together.
Sew a 1/4 on either side of the line.
Once done, sew directly on the line.
Set the seams and press them open toward the dark side.
Make another set with two different squares.
Place it on top of one half-square triangle from the other set, right sides together.
Sew 1/4 away on either side of the fold line.
Cut directly on the line and press it open.
Step 3:
Repeat steps 1 and 2 for the other blocks.
When you arrange them, ensure they are alternating.
