Stir occasionally until the butter is melted.
Once melted, set aside and cool for about 10 minutes.
Pour the mixture over the bread cubes.
Let them sit for about 20 to 30 minutes to let the bread soak up the liquid.

Make the sauce.
Stir from time to time until the butter and sugar are melted and the mixture is steaming.
Step 7:
While waiting for the mixture, combine the cornstarch with 1/4 cup of water.
Once the mixture is steaming, mix in the cornstarch slurry.
Continuously stir until the mixture thickens.
Remove the saucepan from heat and add the vanilla and salt if desired.
Step 8:
Pour the sauce over the freshly baked bread pudding.
