This calico star quilt byMissouri Starmight look like a complex block, but it is not.
Believe me when I say that it is an easy block.
If you have made these before, this pattern will be easy for you.

It is also a great way to use up all of your HSTs.
To make a ton of HSTS all at once, use the magic 8 method.
Its a faster way to make HSTs, than just doing them one by one.
Place it on top of a colored square.
Sew 1/4 away on both sides of the lines.
Cut directly on the lines and in the middle horizontally and vertically.
Square them into 4 1/2 squares and press them open towards the dark side.
Step 2:
Make the broken dish block.
Arrange the half-square triangles just like in the photo below.
Sew them together to make the block.
You need four of this block.
Step 3:
Make the center piece.
Sew them together to make a block.
You only need 1 of this block.
Sew them together to make the block.
You need four pieces of this block.
Step 5:
Arrange all the blocks just like in the photo below.
Sew them together to make the calico star block.
