It may look complicated, but if you look closely you will realize it is comprised of half-square triangles.
The center diamond block has four HSTs and the crown tips are made of small HSTs combined with squares.
The corners are also made of HSTs.
It is a fun block that is absolutely worth making.
Watch the video below for full instructions.
Do the same for the background fabric.
Do the easy 8 method to get 8 half-square triangles.
Place a background square on top of a colored square.
Draw a diagonal line from corner to corner in both directions.
Sew 1/4 away from both sides of the lines.
Cut in the middle horizontally and vertically, then cut directly on the diagonal lines.
Trim each into 4 1/2 squares and press them open.
Cut 2 1/2 squares from your background fabric.
Make 2 of the colored squares into half-square triangles.
Sew directly on the line then trim excess.
Sew them all together just like a four-patch.
See the photo below for reference.
You need 8 of this unit for each block.
Sew them in pairs.
double-check they go in opposite directions (up then down) forming a crown.
Step 3:
Assemble the blocks just like in the photo below.
Sew them all together to make the block.
