Remove grass and weeds from cracks

Using a flathead screwdriver, dig down the cracks and remove them.

If you have a string trimmer, you could go across these expansion joints.

After that, grab your hose and shoot the stream right on the joints to remove the dirt inside.

Sprinkle weed preventer into the expansion joints

Sprinkle it down, then let it sit.

Seal the gaps

Measure the gap using a carpenters pencil or tape measure.

when you’ve got the measurement, get a backer rod with that measurement.

You want the backer rod to be tight in the actual gap when you press it in place.

It should be a quarter of an inch below the concrete surface.

confirm that it fits perfectly in the gaps.

It should be firm and will not float up to the top.

If the backer rod is not tightly placed, it will float and the sealant will go around.

Put sealant

Fill the gaps with the sealant.

Take your time when doing this.

Once done, let it set for about 30 to 45 minutes then sprinkle with sand.

see to it not to put it on a hot sunny day as the sealant may bubble.
