Be creative and play with the patterns.
Sew on the edge with a quarter of an inch seam allowance.
Once done, set your seam and press to the dark side.
Step 2:
Measure the width.
They should measure 4 1/4 if you sew a quarter of an inch.
Get the 4 1/4 strip and place it on top of the unit, right sides together.
Sew on both sides with a quarter of an inch seam to make a tube.
When you sew long seams like this, confirm to change directions often so that your fabric doesnt bow.
Step 3:
Lay it on a flat surface.
Place the ruler on the top of your strip.
Align the 45-degree line on your top seam, then cut the diagonal.
Repeat with the remaining tube.
Step 4:
Open them up and you have a square.
Set the seams and press on the darker side.
Take the four squares and arrange them together to make a double hourglass, set on point.
Sew them together with a quarter of an inch seam allowance.
