Breaded cube steaks are cooked until crispy and golden, then drenched in homemade creamy gravy.

This southern classic dish is made by tenderizing cube steak, and then marinading it in buttermilk.
It helps to add flavor and tenderize the steak even more.
Marinate it for 1 to 2 hours but best if overnight.
Coat with the breading and you are ready to fry.
Make it at home for dinner or lunch.
Place a cling wrap on top and tenderize.
Repeat with the remaining cube steaks.
Step 2:
In a large bowl, add buttermilk, eggs, and salt.
Step 3:
Drop the tenderized cube steaks into the buttermilk mixture.
Cover the bowl with cling wrap.
Refrigerate for 1 hour up to overnight.
Step 4:
In a different bowl, add the breading ingredients and mix until well combined.
Transfer to a plate or flat container.
Step 5:
Preheat your oven to 200F.
Step 6:
Get the steak from the fridge.
Take one and let the excess drip, then transfer to the breading mixture.
Coat on both sides, shake to remove excess flour, then place on a rack.
Repeat with the remaining meat.
Step 7:
Heat a generous amount of oil in a pan.
Once hot, add the breaded steaks and cook until crispy on both sides.
Place on a cooling rack with a baking sheet underneath once done frying.
Step 8:
Get 3 tablespoons of frying oil and set aside.
Place the cooked steak into the preheated oven while making the gravy.
Step 9:
Place a pan on the heat and add the butter.
Once melted, add the 3 tablespoons of oil and flour.
Keep whisking and cook the flour.
Whisk in minced garlic, black pepper, and broth.
Next, gradually pour the milk, mixing after every addition.
Bring it to a semi-boil, then reduce to a simmer while continuously whisking.
Make a taste test and adjust seasonings if needed.
Step 10:
Serve the fried steak with mashed potato and pour the gravy on top.
