For the second set, take 2 pieces of white strips and 1 piece of colored strip.
Place the colored one in the center of the background strips.
Sew with a quarter of an inch seam allowance.

Step 2:
Get one from each set and place them on top of each other.
Trim off the selvage edge, then cut into 2 1/2 units.
You will need two outer pieces and one inner piece for one block.
Step 3:
Get two units from the two-colored strips and one unit from the one-colored strips.
Rotate one of the two-colored strips, and place the one-colored strip in the center.
Sew them together with a quarter of an inch seam allowance to make a 9-patch.
It should be 6 1/2.
Step 4:
Cut 6 1/2 squares from your background fabric and get two pieces.
Place them on top of each other.
Cut in half diagonally from corner to corner to make 4 triangles.
Step 5:
Take the four triangles and fold them in half to find the center.
Do the same with your nine-patch.
Place the triangles on the sides of the block.
double-check they are centered.
Sew with a quarter of an inch seam allowance.
Step 6:
Trim into a square block.
You need 7 blocks across and 8 blocks down for a total of 56.
