You dont even need a rhombus, or, y seams here.

Stack the medium and dark squares and cut them in half, corner to corner.

Next, finger-pressed the 5 square on all four sides as well as the triangles you just cut.

After this, line the triangles on opposite sides of your 5 square.

Sew on both sides with a 1/4 seam.

After sewing, press open and trim the excess fabric.

Sew with a 1/4 seam and press open.

Laying out the blocks to make the stacking blocks quilt top

After sewing, square it up to 7.

(Dont iron them, just finger-pressed the seams back in between.)

Do the same cut with your medium and dark fabric.

Cut the excess, and press it open.

Then, set the dark square on the opposite side and do the same steps.

For the next row, start with a whole block, then a half block.

Repeat these steps until you have the whole top laid out.
