Take one colored strip and one background strip, and sew them together with a 1/4 seam allowance.
Place them on top of each other, right sides together with the opposite colors touching.
Sew on the sides with a 1/4 seam allowance.
Step 2:
Lay the 45-degree line on your ruler on the seam line, then cut.
Slide the ruler to the opposite seam line and cut.
Repeat for the whole strip set.
Open each one and press them flat.
Step 3:
Lay out the block.
Arrange the four pieces together like a four-patch block.

Sew them together with a 1/4 seam allowance.
Press the seams open and flatten each block.
Repeat the steps for the remaining strips and squares.
