I promise you, this pattern is easy and worth trying.

Choose a darker color than the fabric of the flowers.

Draw diagonal lines from corner to corner in both directions.

Sew 1/4 away from both sides of the two lines.

Youll have a double x in the middle.

Step 2:

Cut the square in the middle in both directions.

After that, cut on the diagonal lines youve drawn earlier.

Youll have 8 half square triangles.

Open them and press towards the darker side.

Trim them into 4 3/8 squares.

Step 3:

Arrange the half-square triangles into a pinwheel.

Sew them with a quarter of an inch seam allowance.

It should measure 8 1/4 square.

Step 4:

Place the edge of your ruler 1 3/8 from the center seam and cut.

Repeat it on all four sides.

Youll have one pinwheel, four bar blocks, and four half-square triangles.

Step 5:

Remove the bar blocks.

Get the half-square triangle from the top right and slide it down beside the pinwheel.

Take the half-square triangle from the bottom right and slide it to the left beside the pinwheel.

Repeat with the other 2.

Take the bar blocks and connect them to the edge of the stars.

This is called the whirly gig or windcatcher block.

You need 18 of these.

Step 6:

Get another pinwheel and cut it the same as the first block.

Remove the bar blocks and do the same with the half-square triangles.

Get the bar blocks, place them on the spaces, and match the dark fabrics.

This is called the day lily block.

Youll need 18 of this pattern.

Step 7:

Arrange the two blocks.

Alternate them back and forth all the way down.

6 blocks across and 6 blocks down.
